The Personal Information Protection Act ("the Act") regulates the manner in which BCF Casting Services Inc. ("BCF"), a company that is registered under the laws of the Province of British Columbia, collects, uses, keeps, secures and discloses Personal Information.

The Business

BCF is in the business of establishing and maintaining an on-line database of performers ("Database"). The Database contains personal information voluntarily provided by individuals interested in being considered for on-screen employment as performers, primarily as extras, in the entertainment industry. The personal information on the Database may include names and contact information, a brief description of physical characteristics and distinguishing features, clothing and shoe sizes, age, one or more photographs, province of residence and country of citizenship, previous credits, and such other information as may be required or submitted by individuals in order to be considered for engagement as performers or models ("Personal Information").

The Personal Information is used to help identify prospective candidates or incumbents for extras positions. There is no charge to performers for posting in this on-line catalogue.

BCF recognizes the importance of restricting the use of Personal Information to the following:

  1. BCF and other people, firms or corporations with whom BCF is involved in the hiring and follow-up work management of extras and other performers; and
  2. BCF's staff, contractors, advisers, and service providers.

BCF recognizes the importance of restricting the use of Personal Information. This policy has been developed with those obligations in mind.

Our Need for Personal Information

BCF collects Personal Information from people when they register with BCF for a BCF account. In the future, BCF might collect Personal Information on-line when people use certain BCF products or services, when they register to attend a seminar or participate in an online survey, when they ask to be included in an email or other mailing list, they submit an entry for a promotion, or when they submit their Personal Information to BCF for any other reason. From time to time, BCF may receive Personal Information from third parties. BCF only uses such information if it has been collected in accordance with acceptable privacy practices consistent with this Policy and applicable laws.

Where practical, BCF endeavors to collect Personal Information directly from the person to whom the information pertains. When necessary, BCF will collect Personal Information from other sources.

By establishing an account with BCF and on its Database, an individual consents to BCF's necessary collection, use or disclosure of the individual's Personal Information.

It is BCF's policy to collect Personal Information in accordance with the provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act. The Act deems that an individual has consented to BCF's collection, use or disclosure of Personal Information about that individual if, at the time the consent is deemed to be given, the purpose would be considered obvious to a reasonable person. In such circumstances, BCF will collect, use or disclose Personal Information without obtaining a written or verbal consent to do so.

The Act also permits BCF to collect, use or disclose Personal Information about an individual in some circumstances without the individual's consent. Those include (but are not limited to) circumstances in which:

  1. the collection, use or disclosure is clearly in the interests of the individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way;
  2. the Personal Information is available to the public from a prescribed source;
  3. the collection, use or disclosure of Personal Information is required or authorized by law.

When BCF collects, uses or discloses Personal Information, BCF will make reasonable efforts to ensure that it is accurate and complete.
